“BEAVEN WALLER – NICHT ANGEKÜNDIGT, TROTZDEM DA

There was also support that evening – surprisingly. Because neither on the admission ticket, nor on the Posthof homepage, nor on various Benjamin Clementine postings was this visible at first glance. It's a shame, because Beaven Waller deserved to be officially announced. The singer/songwriter has often supported Benjamin Clementine and was probably not yet known to anyone in Linz. Too bad: because rarely does a support act manage to make the concert hall listen so quietly. Because Beaven Waller creates something that many songwriters can no longer manage: not only to tell a story, but to celebrate it. Build songs for minutes to convey his message. With songs like Glitr Grunge, a support is also worth it. The whole thing with a stage presence that is rarely found in the support slot. Thanks for that, support highlight for this year!”

Posthof Review

March 2025

“From soulful folk to post-punk ballads, the adaptive Beaven Waller asks listeners to pierce the void and unravel their hearts. With influences ranging from Neil Young to Chopin, the singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist’s tracks are laden with unique personality, spirituality and vulnerability. Whether the songs are fully-produced – such as on the recently released record GLITR GRUNGE – or bare bones piano expressions, Waller’s concise but growing discography presents a striking authenticity.

Waller was born and raised in Mansfield, Texas, and left the small town to realize an abstraction of a vision. From Texas to London to New York, Waller got their start in the city as a street performer. Waller now puts on theatrical, “cabaret in the west” performances in NYC and fronts their band, The Violet Hour. In their second tour with Benjamin Clementine, Waller remains a hopeful mystery.”

Live at Coliseu do Porto

Beaven Waller did the honors of a piano framed night. The theatrical musician from Texas - "excuse me for that" - does not spare praise for the city he visits for the first time: "Porto is everything I imagined Europe was". Before proceeding to a tribute to Bowie, he tells and represents, jumping across the stage, the story of a monkey who all he wants to do is touch a little bird that lands on his branch. "He goes, slowly... And finally, he touches the bird..." - a moment of suspense follows, while the audience looks up in a childish way, waiting for the outcome - "and the bird flies". And the rest? It's the question that seems to hover over the faces. Waller smiles and returns to the piano, as if guessing the moral of the story on the keys.

The lights paint the music of each color present in Waller's eccentric suit; the loose and excessive voice of the American pianist leaves us prepared for the protagonist of the night. “
